What's the best home business to start with $5K?

I have $5k saved, want to quit my job and need to make atleast $4K a month. Any ideas? My wife and I are looking for a guaranteed income to raise our child and pay the mortgage! No MLM/Pyramid Schemes, don't even answer. I am a very smart person, worked in Law Enforcement as an interrogation specialist and won't give my money to the first person with a pathetic idea. You try to rip me off, I rip your limbs, get it!

I would try to get your business up and running before you quit your "real" job.

I've recently become a stay at home dad, and have been making a few grand a month. My main source is Ebay. I do a few different things to source products to sell.

First, I buy items off of craigslist and resell on ebay.

Also, I have an uncle who has a brick and mortar business selling parts, I talked to him and he agreed to have me list his parts on ebay and keep the commissions. Make a list of everyone you know and see if this idea would apply to any of them.

Another source of my products is a dropship wholesaler calld Salehoo, here is a link for them http://dFL8.me/3ae6

I would definitely say that you need to try to create multiple sources of products if you are going to sell on ebay. It has worked well for me, just don't go out and buy a bunch of inventory, then your cash flow will be zilch. Try to find products that you can sell and then buy and ship and/or dropship. Good Luck!

With the economy being what it is right now. I would hate to see you lose your money on any kind of work at home project. You really have to be care with whatever you do. Why not try Ebay.Find a couple of wholesale places that see authentic coach purses and relist them. They sell really well. Just buy a couple to test them out.Start by putting the bid at what you actually paid for it. You will be surpriese to see how your money will double, or triple.

I recommend that you buy the book "the four hour work week" by Tim Ferriss. He started an online business and figured out a way to automate it so that the business runs itself.

He gives you tips and considerations as you figure out what type of business you finally develop.

    Its a good read.

I really don't want to be obscene or cause offense but internet pornography seems to be the only safe bet these days.
Maybe some kind of niche pornography.
Hosting isn't that much and if you spend $3k on content, which should be enough, you should be able to get started.
Again I really don't want to offend you, but this is the only recession proof business there is.

Alternatively you could keep your job for now, set up the adult entertainment site, and when it's up, start another business, perhaps as a private investigator? Then you could quit the job you have now, being sure that you have a steady income with minimal maintenance from the website, and a proper job also.
