Is "lead generation" a fancy term for cold calling?

Why are people so afraid to advertise a sales position as that? Lead Generation and Sales Prospecting sounds more like a sales job. But I guess Cold Calling is Sales?

I guess they think that cold-calling would scare most people off. I have been in sales for four years and cold-calling is about 75% of my job. It's a numbers game. The more times you demonstrate the product, the more sales you make, provided you have the 4 P's.

Any sales job worth its money is going to demand cold calling. Lead Generation is huge in industries where you work say as a telemarketer for a Mortgage company or other service providing companies. You need to find out if this job you close the sale or you are getting solid leads for upper sales people. Big difference in money
