when you walk into a new prospects office, he will say"i dont know you, dont know your company, dont know your product", why should i buy from you?. the first thing you sell is you. by having studied his company and his product you show that you have a knowledge of his needs and his operation. until he has confidence in you and your ability you cant sell him anything. dress neat and clean, be prompt and exude self confidence.

Oddly enough… You have to become the Brand…
This is why I say this… I work with Niche Market Professionals - and do a LOT of coaching. Some of these people I work with are Sales People, and after about 6 months or working with them they find that their sales increase, why? Well what we are finding is that, when an individual (more so today than in the past, people are more educated as it pertains to their buying habits) connects with his/her product and then ties this to their personal brand - the deliver is more personal and centered, vs the old paradigm of "See what I Got? Like it? Sign on the line…"
So the single most powerful technique that I can offer is this…
Wrap your personal brand around whatever you are selling and rethink your delivery to your potential clients. Be informative, however; also be consultive in your approach!
