If you have decided to take the plunge and start a new business, congratulations. It’s an exciting and a scary ride. Before you choose your business, you need to thing carefully. You will be spending a lot of time on your business and it should fit you talents and your lifestyle. Here are a few things to consider.

Wholesale, Retail Information Or Manufacturer

Every business has different levels. Let’s say you love bowling. There are businesses that manufacture the equipment, businesses that wholesale the equipment to bowling alleys, business that retail bowling accessories and business that teach bowling or equipment maintenance. Each of these business areas will provide a different level of enjoyment depending on your goals, assets and aspirations.

Hours

Some businesses require long hours or 24-hour emergency service. Some require set hours in an office or store and others require no set hours. Retail businesses usually require weekend hours and evenings. Think about the hours that will fit your goals the best and select a business that fits those requirements.

Activities

Think about what you like and don’t like to do. Maybe you like computer work, maybe you like to sell, maybe you like using the telephone, maybe you like working with your hands. Whatever makes you happiest should be incorporated into your business. For example, if you like working with your hands but don’t like selling much, maybe a house painting business or service business would be the best fit for you. Try to select a business that you will be happy working at for many years.

Status

Some business ventures will give you status but others won’t. Your family and friends may give you more respect as a “financial analyst” than they will if you own a janitorial franchise, even though the latter may be far more successful. If you are looking for status, choose accordingly.

Money Required

Some businesses require capital and others do not. For example, it takes on average about $1 million to open a successful restaurant but it takes only about $50.00 to sell your next eBook on line. Be sure you consider the amount of capital you have and the amount you want to risk when choosing.

Partners & Employees

With some businesses you can work alone, others require partners or employees. Choose a business that suits your desires and your personality.

Before you start anything is the best time to think carefully, asses yourself, your strengths and weaknesses, your likes and dislikes and choose a business that will make you happy and richer for a very long time.
