Think Carefully Before Starting Your New Business

If you have decided to take the plunge and start a new business, congratulations. It’s an exciting and a scary ride. Before you choose your business, you need to thing carefully. You will be spending a lot of time on your business and it should fit you talents and your lifestyle. Here are a few things to consider.

Wholesale, Retail Information Or Manufacturer

Every business has different levels. Let’s say you love bowling. There are businesses that manufacture the equipment, businesses that wholesale the equipment to bowling alleys, business that retail bowling accessories and business that teach bowling or equipment maintenance. Each of these business areas will provide a different level of enjoyment depending on your goals, assets and aspirations.

Hours

Some businesses require long hours or 24-hour emergency service. Some require set hours in an office or store and others require no set hours. Retail businesses usually require weekend hours and evenings. Think about the hours that will fit your goals the best and select a business that fits those requirements.

Activities

Think about what you like and don’t like to do. Maybe you like computer work, maybe you like to sell, maybe you like using the telephone, maybe you like working with your hands. Whatever makes you happiest should be incorporated into your business. For example, if you like working with your hands but don’t like selling much, maybe a house painting business or service business would be the best fit for you. Try to select a business that you will be happy working at for many years.

Status

Some business ventures will give you status but others won’t. Your family and friends may give you more respect as a “financial analyst” than they will if you own a janitorial franchise, even though the latter may be far more successful. If you are looking for status, choose accordingly.

Money Required

Some businesses require capital and others do not. For example, it takes on average about $1 million to open a successful restaurant but it takes only about $50.00 to sell your next eBook on line. Be sure you consider the amount of capital you have and the amount you want to risk when choosing.

Partners & Employees

With some businesses you can work alone, others require partners or employees. Choose a business that suits your desires and your personality.

Before you start anything is the best time to think carefully, asses yourself, your strengths and weaknesses, your likes and dislikes and choose a business that will make you happy and richer for a very long time.

Building Web Sites That Generate Leads And Generate Online Sales? Are You Designing It Backwards?

<!– /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:”"; margin:0in; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:”Times New Roman”; mso-fareast-font-family:”Times New Roman”;} a:link, span.MsoHyperlink {color:blue; text-decoration:underline; text-underline:single;} a:visited, span.MsoHyperlinkFollowed {color:purple; text-decoration:underline; text-underline:single;} @page Section1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.25in 1.0in 1.25in; mso-header-margin:.5in; mso-footer-margin:.5in; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} –>

The fatal error we see in the way many people build their web sites is that they do it backwards. If not built in proper stages, your site may get very little attention by search engines and that means few leads and few sales.

Did you start your site by choosing the colors and template? Maybe you worked feverishly on a new logo and page design. Worse yes, maybe you paid a lot of money to get expert help in these areas.  That is exactly doing it backwards. Those are the things that should be done last, not first! Let’s take a look at what should be done first and how to set the foundation for a great web site that generates leads and creates online sales.

The very first thing to do is to determine what you will be selling and what kind of people will be looking for your products and services. Put yourself in their place and ask what you would key into a browser to find what you sell. For example, if a customer was looking for sales training, would they key in “award winning sales training DVD” or “how to sell more”? Avoid jargon and list simple phrases people would key in to find your site.

You can expand your keyword list by asking others, checking your competitors, using online tools and programs and much more until you have a list of  the keywords you want to use.

Next, you need to determine and record how many people search for these key words. You can do this using Google’s free keyword tool located at http://www.adwords.google.com .

First decide if there are enough people looking for your product to make it profitable. Then we suggest you pick six prime keywords to use. The top three should be words, not phrases like “sales” “marketing” etc. These words will have large numbers of searches. Make sure these keywords are placed in your page titles, meta tags and h1 copy on your site. Use the balance of your keyword phrases in H2 copy and in keyword and description meta tags on each page of your site. Make sure the title of each page is not only keyword and phrase rich but also that it is unique for each page on your site.

Only when you have keywords that will attract the customers you are looking for are you ready to being building your site.

Be sure you start at the beginning and do not make keywords an after thought.

Feedback on a business idea…please be brutal (but not rude).?

Today I bought the domain "paymyfans.com" & set up preliminary web details. As I am not open for business yet I think I am allowed to get feedback w/out violating any yahoo polices. You can view the preliminary concept at:
http://www.dollhousex.com/pmf

The forwarding hasn't kicked in yet, nor metatags for searching yet.

The basic concept is to get unsigned bands to make available their albums (on a non exclusive basis) for purchase at $12. They get a cut of that and any advertising/affiliate revenue the site makes.

For 'fans' they buy the music & as a benefit they get the right to earn money from referrals. $5 for any direct referrals, $1 for once removed referrals, $1.50 for twice removed referrals and $2.50 for three times removed referrals, sort of like a MLM. Also if they refer just one other fan they get a free download of a second album. The fan gets a renewable income to purchase more music & possilby an income stream for life as they support more bands. Sound good?
Agree $12 a little steep however CDbaby sells many unsigned for this price. For less money, it forces the reward incentive to be a lot less and I think that would be worse and not better. Any thoughts on that, too?

I agree. Even a signed band is prob going to balk at that price.

You don't have to sell your soul for this:

'You don't get rich fast you get rich slow'

There's usually a reason they are unsigned. I think if I were in your position I would be re-evaluating my business plan.

What are good techniques for salesmen to get sales?

As a summer job I am going to be a salesman.

To become a good salesman you need to know a lot of things. The answers here may not answer your question 100%.So i suggest you to do some reading to learn more about selling.
This is what TOP salespeople will do:
1)Maintain a positive attitude
2)Learn and practice accepted sales techniques
3)Remain positive although they get rejected
4)Listen to your prospects
5)Know your products
6)Manage your time and priorities
7)Consider yourself as problem solvers for your prospects
8)Be proud of your profession

Any advice on how I can I improve my sales techniques?

I'm a realtor/loan officer

READ!!! Read about your industry and read generic books about sales techniques. I like Zig Ziglar. Check your library for books and audio books. Don't forget trade magazines for your industry. Again, the library can help you.
